Publius, edited by Oxford Academic and indexed at Journal Citation Reports (JCR), is one of the major journals worldwide, particulaly on the field of federalism. The journal first appeared under the signature of the American researcher and political scientist Daniel J. Elazar, together with Earl M. Baker, in 1971.

Some of the topics the journal focuses on are:

  • Federal systems and societies
  • Applications of federal principles to political and social problems
  • Intergovernmental relations in broad terms
  • Federalism’s covenantal roots and theoretical dimensions
  • Federalism as a cultural and social phenomenon
  • Federalism as a fundamental principle of peace and justice

In addition, the journal publises under a multidisciplinary standard, being home of publication of political scientists, sociologists, lawyers, historians, economists and social scientists in general. However, Publius does not limit its scope to regular issues. In also realeases special series, such as the Yearly Review of American Federalism, which is one of its better known publications. Finally, during the last decade, it has increased its dedication to the field of comparative federalism.

Ituna Center for Basque Economic Agreement and Federalism Studies congratulates both, the Center for the Study of Federalism and the APSA Section on Federalism and Intergovernmental Relations, and wishes them another fifty years and more of Publius.
